Long-Term Care

Types of Long-Term Care

Non-Clinical Home Care

Personal Care Services Providers placed highly trained caregivers in the home to help seniors with their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Most seniors want to age in place in their own home, so this is a preferred option for long term care. These services can be provided through different payor options. Many of these Providers can help you navigate these payor options so that you can afford the best care.

Home Health Care and Hospice Services

These services can provide support for long term care but are not able to provide the comprehensive care that seniors will need to age in place. To see how these services can work for you, you need to talk with your physician. They can provide directions and order these services for you if you qualify

Adult Day Services

For those seniors and their families who want to age in place, there is another option for your loved one. Adult Day services are staffed facilities where your loved one can attend during the day to stay socially engaged while also providing respite for the family care partners. You can check out options at the National Adult Day Association

Senior Living Communities

There are different types of communities that range from apartment living for those usually 55+, to providing more assistance with daily living, to full skilled nursing care. If you are not sure which options are best for you, there are agencies that can help you, such as A Place for Mom, with no charge to the family.

Independent Living

These communities are designed to provide independence for the senior but do have some services such as meals, activities, etc.

Assisted Living

These communities are designed to provide seniors with help with their Activities of Daily Living. There are nurse’s aides on each floor and provide a balance of social and care services to the residents.

Memory Care
Similar to Assisted Living communities with the same services but cater to the needs of seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
Skilled Care
Highest level of medical care for seniors that have significant chronic illnesses or require skilled nursing care.
