Episode 90

7️⃣ Summits – 7️⃣ Continents – 1️⃣1️⃣ Months

What do mountains and dementia have to do with each other?

⛰️ @Alan Arnette – Climbing to End Alzheimer’s made it a mission to climb for change, peak by peak, while raising funds for Alzheimer’s.

“In the nineties and I was climbing for all of the wrong reasons. I overestimated my capabilities and underestimated the difficulty of climbing a mountain. This was deadly combination.

My mom, Ida, was very career minded and did not understand how I could put my career at risk while climbing mountains. Every time I would come back she would say “I’m glad you got that out of your system…”

I made a vow that I was not going to let the world forget Ida Arnette. In 2009, at age 53, I decided to start a campaign to raise funds and awareness by climbing the “Seven Summits”, which were the highest mountains in each of the continents.”

Tune in to learn more about this incredible adventure and how Alan’s love of the mountains have turned into so much more.
