Buswell Biomedical is a MedTech company developing the UPMO—Upward Mobility.

UPMO is an AI-controlled mobility support device designed for rehabilitation hospitals. Patients wear a personalized harness embedded with sensors to monitor fit and safety. They attach their harness to the UPMO, an aluminum structure that fits through doorways and around toilets, and the device  enables them to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), like toileting, independently.

Patients move under their own power, building strength and confidence throughout recovery. UPMO can provide fall prevention support or gently lower a patient in a controlled way if needed. The device navigates autonomously using LIDAR to reach the patient when summoned.

It confirms secure harness connection before allowing movement. Healthcare workers are updated in real time on the patient’s identity, location, and status, allowing staff to prioritize skilled care while reducing risk of injury or delays.
